Frosty BPS playground

A frosty February morning

After the snow of January, February has started on a very frosty note.   Despite the cold, though, life at BPS is as exciting as always, with lots of developments around school to share!  We also have much to look forward to, with book week and the Baftas in March, and a variety of other exciting activities taking place in February, including a range of interesting visits and visitors.

Sharing the latest news and events

Digital signage

Digital signage

Our digital display screen in the reception area is now fully up and running.  Featuring information about the latest events in school, as well as video clips, photographs, and sound clips, the screen is regularly updated.  Leading up to the reception area: we also have a new noticeboard; this features news and information from around school, including information from ‘The Friends of BPS’.

Featured on our main school website are two areas that are designed to give parents a ‘window’ into life at BPS.  Firstly, the ‘Photo Gallery‘ features snapshots from around school, including school events.   Secondly, BPS TV has recently been updatedwith video clips of our ducks!

The Nature Area

The nature area is developing into a very interesting place for pupils to visit, with lots of potential for learning experiences as an ‘outdoor classroom’.   Our resident ducks are very well settled and enjoying life on the pond, despite the cold.

The Medical Area

The new medical area has been very well received by pupils.  Featuring comfy red sofas, story CDs to listen and a light, spacious feel, the medical area means that pupils can make a swift recovery in pleasant surroundings.

The Nursery

Our amazing nursery has recently seen some interesting developments, with structural work taking place to the building.   The building has been extended to create an extra room that is used for role play and soft play, with a mosaic dividing screen.  The main nursery has been enhanced with the addition of a touch sensitive interactive whiteboard.  Future developments include creating a natural outdoor area and the creation of a room especially for one year olds.

Displays

Displays around school celebrate the achievements of our children, as well as being important teaching resources.  We are very proud of the work that our pupils have completed and we would like to share with you some of the displays from around school.  Head over to ‘Photo Gallery‘ on the main school website for more pictures of some of the fabulous displays from around Buckingham Primary School.

Mrs Roach and other staff at Buckingham Primary School have recently been working on their skills in recording and editing video so that we can share what is happening in school with the whole school community more regularly!
Here is the clip that Mrs Roach created.

Children have made a brilliant start to the year, producing some wonderful work and behaving very well! Have a look at the slideshow below to see some of the work that year 3 have been completing. You may well recognise some of the portraits – the children have been using mirrors, paint and their artistic skills to create the images.

Children in year 3 have begun to study Ancient Greece this half term, and they are looking forward to the visit of some Ancient Greek soldiers later this term! Stay tuned for more information as it comes.

Children in year 4 have been enjoying creating Roman newspapers as part of their work in history.  Pupils have used ICT to create images and text, and they have then organised their ideas using word processing skills.  This is all part of a unit of work entitled ‘Publishing for an audience’.  Other activities during the unit of work have included sending emails with attachments, writing blog posts and even creating web pages as part of a ‘Wiki’!

Children would really appreciate any comments that you could leave regarding their work.  The school blog is a great place for us to generate an audience for children’s writing.

Around Buckingham Primary

The children of Buckingham Primary School are loving the amazing range of outdoor play equipment that is now available.  The new ‘Astroturf’ all weather picture is already being used by children from across the school during lunchtimes, play-times and PE lessons.  The enclosed area is hugely popular for 5-a-side football and netball, and having ball games in this area allows children to safely play other games on the traditional playgrounds.  Many of the outdoor developments have been at the suggestion of the active school council.

The pond area redevelopment is also coming along very well.  Thanks to the efforts of the team, the ‘outdoor classroom’  is nearing completion, with a wide range of plants and animals now enjoying their redeveloped habitats.  The noisiest inhabitants are undoubtedly the ducks, who are enjoying their new pond and duck house!

Buckingham Primary School is indeed a very exciting place to be.  In fact, one pupil today mentioned that he was almost ‘bursting with excitement’ when he wakes up the morning at the thought of coming in to school!
